Why I Don’t Offer Raw Video Footage or RAW Photos to Clients: The Real Story

No holding back right?

ree

If you’ve followed my journey or worked with me in the past, you might know that I used to offer packages for businesses that wanted to edit their own content, (in fact I think I only have one client who still does) I’d deliver a bank of raw video footage, straight from the camera, so you could create your own reels and clips whenever you liked. On paper, it seemed like a great idea. In reality? Mmm... Not so much!

Let me explain why I’ve stepped away from this service, and why it’s actually a positive change for you (and for me!).

Raw Video Footage: The Bloopers Are Real

When I say “raw footage,” I mean unedited video clips, exactly as they come out of the camera. You get everything: the in-between moments, the outtakes, the awkward pauses, the bits where someone walks through the frame or the camera is on my feet for a good 2 minutes because I forgot to press pause, and ALL the bloopers. My toddler interrupting my home product photoshoot set up in the living room or bombarding into my studio... That’s just the nature of real, human content creation - ask any content creator (particularly those with kids in this instance, lol). Life happens, and we work around it.

But here’s the thing. Most business owners don’t realise just how much “real life” ends up on camera. They expect a neat, polished set of clips, but what they actually get is a mountain of footage that needs sorting, trimming, and editing. It can be overwhelming and, honestly, a bit disheartening if you’re not used to sifting through the “bad bits” to find the gold.

I am not sure about anyone else, but when I say, unedited 'as shot' this is what I god honestly truthfully mean. But when it comes to editing said footage, I already know what bits to brush past, to fast forward to. Because it is all in my mind! I know what I shot. But regardless, it's better to invest to allow me to spend extra time delivering the goods, as best received.

It Doesn’t Work for Most Businesses

After years of offering this, I noticed a pattern. Most clients didn’t know how to handle raw video footage. They wanted a solution, not another job to add to their list. For some, it was and still is fine. But, for many. Well, I think they were being polite about it feeling more stressful. But I gave options, they picked the cheapest! The truth is, the world has changed, business owners are busy, and digital marketing moves fast. According to recent industry stats, the average UK business now invests at least £250–£400 for a single, professionally edited Instagram reel. ONE REEL!! Why? Because people want content that’s ready to use, provides a solution, appeals to target audiences etc etc. Not a folder full of files and the pressure to learn video editing on the fly.

My job is to make your life easier, not harder. I've tried to people please and offer every option but I want you to feel supported, confident, and excited to share your content, without the overwhelm of editing or the confusion of what to do with hours of raw footage that your iPhones cant handle the file sizes of. That’s why from now on, I focus on providing finished, polished content that’s ready to use and truly reflects your business, and meets your needs.

My Promise: Solutions, Not Stress

I want to be here to give you content and photos you’re proud to share, without the hassle, the overwhelm, or the awkward in-betweens, the STRESS.

My goal is always to make your life easier, not harder. You get polished, professional work that’s ready for your website, socials, and campaigns. No bloopers, no unfinished files, just content that works for you.

So what I am saying is, I have tried to listen when it comes to what people want. But I have sat back and observed the reality for long enough to realise the truth in what businesses think they want VS what they actually genuinely need.

If you want to chat about your next project or need help with content that feels real and effortless, I’m always here to help.

If you want all the bloopers, just know I may be VERY hesitant and will likely explain why this is not going to help you. So you may have to convince me!

With love,

Jemima Joy xx
